Description
Role-based bidding
Give eligible members access to your auctions.
Use WordPress user roles to control bidding across your Simple Auctions store. Customers with a configured restricted role cannot place a bid until their role changes.
This makes the add-on useful for members-only auctions or a purchase-based bidder verification flow.
A clear next step for restricted bidders
When a restricted customer tries to bid, a notice explains that their role does not allow bidding and links to your designated verification product.
- Choose the roles to restrict in your setup.
- Choose the role customers receive after verification.
- Direct customers to a specific product to unlock bidding.
From purchase to bidding
Use a product purchase to grant bidder access.
1. Purchase the verification product
The customer signs in and buys the product configured for verification through your WooCommerce checkout.
You choose the product and its price. It can be a simple virtual product created specifically for this step.
2. Receive the bidder role
When that order reaches Processing or Completed, the add-on changes a customer with a configured restricted role to the first configured bidder role.
The customer can then place bids through Simple Auctions.
Verification here means access granted through a qualifying order. The add-on does not store or validate card details itself, and it does not automatically charge the winner for a later auction purchase.
Setup and requirements
Match the role rules to your store.
Prepare the auction store
Install and activate WooCommerce and WooCommerce Simple Auctions before this add-on. The base auction plugin is purchased separately.
Create your verification product and identify the restricted and bidder roles you want to use.
Configure and check the flow
The role lists and verification product ID are configured in the plugin’s PHP file. This add-on does not provide an admin settings screen for these options.
Check new-account roles, checkout and order statuses before launch. Review your payment gateway’s status handling: granting access depends on an order reaching Processing or Completed.
Need help setting up bidder access?
After purchase, open a support ticket so wpgenie can help configure the extension for your auction website. Include your intended roles, verification product and payment gateway.

Frequently asked questions
Does this include WooCommerce Simple Auctions?
No. This is an add-on for WooCommerce Simple Auctions. You need WooCommerce and the base auction plugin installed and active.
When does a customer receive the bidder role?
When an order containing the configured verification product reaches Processing or Completed, a customer with a configured restricted role is assigned the first configured bidder role. Use a customer account for this flow.
Is this a card verification or automatic payment gateway?
No. It uses a WooCommerce order and a role change to grant bidding access. It does not independently verify card details or collect payment for a later auction win. Check how your gateway sets order statuses before using this as a verification step.
Can I use this for members-only auctions?
Yes. Configure the restricted and bidder roles to match your membership setup. The restriction applies through the store’s Simple Auctions bidding flow; this add-on does not provide a separate membership subscription system.
Can I configure everything from the WordPress dashboard?
No. Role lists and the verification product ID are configured in the plugin’s PHP file. After purchase, open a support ticket if you would like wpgenie to help with setup.
Does a refund automatically remove bidding access?
No. The supplied add-on changes roles when qualifying orders reach Processing or Completed. It does not automatically reverse that role change after a refund or cancellation.
